Abstract

The results of step rolling work performed based on the proposed V.N. Vydrin a new direction of its development.
Structures of step rolling mills with oscillating rolls СШ 175, СШ 200, ШП 280, ПК 600, developed under the guidance of V.N. Vydrin, or based on his fundamental technical solutions, called rolling-forging mills are described in this article. These mills found industrial application at metallurgical and machine-building enterprises of Russia and foreign countries in the preparation of billets and finished profiles from special alloys of ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
It was noted that rolling-forging mills are competitive with modern radial forging machines when receiving blanks of constant cross-sectional length from special alloys of ferrous and nonferrous metals in terms of quality of rolled products, cost of equipment and operating costs.
New designs of experimental and industrial step rolling mills with rotating rolls ШП 150, ШП 160, СШР 300, СШР 82.5, a multifunctional rolling mill, developed on the basis of a patented technical solution with the participation of V.N. Vydrin was presented in this article. A fundamental feature of these mills design is a rigid kinematic connection between the drives of rotation of the rolls and the reciprocating movement of the rolling stand, ensuring their operation without the use of feed and tumbling devices.
More than 130 scientific papers were published; more than 100 copyright certificates of the USSR, patents of the Russian Federation, the USA, Great Britain, Japan and Germany were obtained according to the results of research and development on step rolling.
