Abstract

The reaction of 2,2’-bipyridyl with potassium dicyanoargentate in aqueous alcohol solution yielded catena-[(2-cyano)-(2,2’-bipyridyl)-silver(I)], the structure of which was proven by X-ray diffraction analysis: (bpy)Ag(CN)2 (1) [C10.73H8AgN3.27, M = 290.61; monoclinic syngony, space group С2/с; cell parameters: a = 12.2677(2) Å, b = 8.60700(10) Å, c = 10.1225(2) Å; β = 106.871(2), V = 1022.81(3) Å3, Z = 4; calc = 1.887 g/cm3;  = 1.937 mm–1; F(000) = 569; collection area by q: 3.30430.500; total reflections 12678; independent reflections 1564 (Rint = 0.0249); GOOF = 1.094;
R1-factor 0.0185]. Adduct 1 is a single-chain polymer with four-coordinated silver atoms linearly linked by disordered cyanide bridges.
