Abstract

The article examines the trends of innovative activity of industrial enterprises, being observed in the Russian Federation and around the world today. Based on official statistics of the international and Russian levels, a qualitative and quantitative analysis of innovative activity of industrial enterprises has been conducted. The authors have identified such global trends as growth of patent activity, outpacing growth of investments in intangible assets, and consistency of research and development expenditures. The research study also reveals trends in the innovative activity of the domestic industry. The key trends are the reduction in patent activity, excluding the patents for industrial designs, the predominance of investments in technological innovation, but not in the form of acquiring new technologies, but of acquiring new machines and equipment with their subsequent adjustment to the production specifics. The authors also determine a significant differentiation in the level of innovative activity not only in the sectoral structure of industry, but also in the regional one. Using the methods of correlation analysis, the importance of the innovation system of a particular region for the effectiveness of the innovative activity of industrial enterprises on the territory has been proved. According to the authors' assessments, only every third region in the country creates favorable conditions for the implementation of innovation potential in industry.
