Abstract

The article is focused on the analysis and systematization of main trends of development of the
modern higher education system. The basic trends are highlighted. The impact of selected trends on the prospects of transformation and changes in the system of higher education is specified. Organizational and economic measures aimed at consolidating Russia’s position in the global educational space are approved. The role and the importance of instruments for international rating of the level of competitiveness of higher educational institutions operating in a single international educational  space are estimated. The priority guidelines for improving the competitiveness of Russian universities and the possibility of their occurrence in world rankings are outlined. On the basis of universities it’s suggested to form a unified scientific and ducational ecosystem aimed at improving the practical orientation of the educational process, on the one hand, and the scientific evidence, on the other hand. It’s justified that the creation of new innovation ecosystems should be primarily aimed at the maximum convergence of educational programs of educational institutions with the objectives of production and business and the creation of sites for commercialization of scientific research, as well as the formation of a new business and research culture in the student and professorial environments.
