Abstract

The selection of high-performance cutting conditions that ensure the specified accuracy and quality of machining is one of the most difficult tasks in the design of grinding operations. Existing empirical dependences of cutting forces have a narrow application range and do not take into account changes in the state of the grinding wheel's cutting surface during operation, which leads to a significant scatter of calculated data. The presented work proposes an analytical method for calculating the radial cutting force in cylindrical plunge grinding, taking into account the influence of the degree of abrasive grain dulling. The method is based on an analytical model of the cutting process by a single grain, supplemented by equations linking the force and kinematic parameters of the process, taking into account the elastic compliance of the technological system. The calculated dependences are presented, allowing to determine the current value of the radial cutting force and the actual transverse feed for any moment of time under a given law of change in the nominal feed. An experimental verification of the adequacy of the proposed models was carried out, showing their good convergence with experimental data for various steel grades. The developed method can be used by technologists in the design of cylindrical grinding operations on CNC machines equipped with active control devices to optimize processing cycles and increase productivity.
