Abstract

The formation of a regional media image in the new geopolitical context, where political space has transitioned into mass media space, is essential for researchers. This article aims to study the process of shaping a regional media image through the example of the Chelyabinsk region. This region was chosen because it represents all major types of activities and hosts repre sentatives of all nationalities in Russia. Therefore, trends observed here are likely to apply to oth er territories as well. The article explores the concept of “media image” and concludes that it can refer to specific politicians, regions, or countries, and is a phenomenon consistently perceived by the public. Additionally, the paper raises questions about the subjects involved in shaping the regional media image. The author argues that mass media outlets act as legitimate agents of politics, being the primary subject responsible for shaping the regional media image within the context of mediatized political processes. Furthermore, the author discusses key factors that influence the formation of a media image, including the representation of the regional leader and the territory in collective consciousness, as well as audience feedback on these representations.
