Abstract

With the opening of Ivan the Terrible “creation” chants in the 70—80years of
XIX century a lot of statements about the nature of Russian tsar’s compositions
have been accumulated in historiography. Found that in old Russian manuscripts
two stichera cycles of his authorship were recorded — St. Peter the Metropolitan of
Moscow and Vladimir Icon of the Blessed Virgin. But, as it turned out, almost every
one of hymnographical (poetic) text of sticherons has two musical variants — in the
conventional Znamenny style and in fairly new to Ivan the Terrible era Putevoy
style. The author of this article, considering both direct and indirect evidence,
expresses his point of view that tsar himself adapted his stichera cycles the only
Znameny variant. This vatiant is fixed in the “trinity” manuscript collection written
by hand of famous master Login Shishelov as well as in other manuscript.
Also with time researchers began to attribute many chants to Ivan the Terrible
authorship. According to the author, these chants are not. The author of
paper based on tradition of designation authorship in Old Russian manuscripts
clarified circle of chants witch can be reliably considered as belonging to Ivan the
Terrible heritage.
