Commemorative practics of the museum of the international “memorial” movement (end 1980-s — the beginning 2000-s)

Abstract

It’s well known, that the archives, libraries and museums are keepers of the historical memory of nation. All of these elements must be in a closely connection to each other, because it should help to decide the problem of the keeping of the historical memory “in complex”.
Usually, people think that only governmental archives, libraries and museums can be the keepers of the historical memory of nation. Many of us forgot, that the social organizations could be the special keepers of our historical memory too.
So, the author of this article considers the historical work of the International movement “Memorial”, for example, his active exhibition’s work in the end of 1980 — beginning 2000-s. There were the special moments of that work: the first — all exhibitions were devoted by the theme of the political repressions and the second — the exhibitions were organized by not only the museum of the “Memorial” but by the archive and library of the “Memorial” together.
