The first World war in the context of the myths and historical parallels

Abstract

The paper describes participation of Russia in the First World War. In particular, the paper refutes myths in determining of nature of the First World War, myths in assessing of military operations and activities of the Russian generals, myths in estimating of Russia’s leadership and behavior of the masses. Author of the paper draws historical parallels between World War I and the Great Patriotic War. Author concludes that Russia’s military action in 1914–1918 years has primarily the character of national liberation, which puts it on the level of the Great Patriotic War.
