The article describes a manuscript of the 1st quarter of the 16th century belonged to deacon Iona
Zuy.” This manuscript (Zuevskiy Sticherar) contains hymns of stolpovoy chant, but it differs a lot
from other manuscripts. It has a lot of strange features in the set and order of hymns, their text and
melody. It has been discovered that the Zuevskiy Sticherar is somehow connected with the tradition
of putevoy chant. Its extraordinary features often match with manuscripts of the putevoy chant. In
this connection the article describes the phenomenon of formula discrepancies between stolpovoy and
putevoy chants. Formulas of putevoy chant are based on the melody and rhythmic pattern of appropriate
formulas of stolpovoy chant. When a putevaya formula in a hymn is not an exact translation into
“put” of the appropriate stolpovaya formula, but is based on another stolpovaya formula, we call it
formula discrepancy. In these cases formulas in Zuevskiy Sticherar usually match with the formulas
in putevoy hymn. The notation of the manuscript has also strange features, that can be compared with
the putevaya notation. It is assumed that some formulas in Zuevskiy Stichirar are modified and can
be considered as initial forms of future formulas of putevoy chant. That’s why Zuevskiy Stichirar is
very important for the investigations of putevoy chant.
