Abstract

This article is devoted to the problem of the religiosity of the spirit of law based on
traditional Christian values and faith in God as the most important component of the European cultural code, which for centuries acted as a tool of social engineering, ensuring the political and legal
stability of social and state development. Historical analysis shows the most important role of the
church in the formation of the legal system of European countries, the principles of its legitimacy,
morality, dynamics and universality. In the context of legal research, the problem concerning the
connection between the religious component of national identity and the idea of the rule of law is
solved. It seems that the loss of one leads to the loss of the other, which leads to a crisis of power and
chaos in all spheres of society, including at the level of international relations.
