Abstract

This article addresses the topical issue of employing expert knowledge in the investigation of crimes related to the distribution of pornographic material. Currently, there is no unified definition or comprehensive list of criteria in the Russian legislation that unequivocally determines whether certain images should be considered pornographic. The author analyzes the term “pornographic material” in the current regulatory acts of the Russian Federation. The article identifies general and specific characteristics of pornographic materials, which are proposed to be summarized into two main diagnostic features: “intentionality” and “suitability”.
