THE STUDY ON PSYCHOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF A PERSON WHO COMMITS THEFTS BASED ON THE MODEL OF THE INTERNATIONAL ACADEMY OF LIE RESEARCH

Abstract

This article describes the personality of an offender and psychological characteristics
of a person who commits thefts. When studying the personality of a person who has
committed a theft the psychological methods and techniques of assessing the human behavior
based on the analysis of the appearance, nonverbal and verbal behavior are used.
The study on the personality of people who committed thefts is carried out in the course
of an examinational talk applying the method of prompt psychodiagnosis of the International
Academy of Lie Research (Moscow). The interrogation was developed on the basis
of interviewing techniques by Nathan Gordon and the method of psychodiagnosis of persons
involved in the offense in case of the lack of evidence by L. B. Filonov (Dr. Sc. in
Psychology). 

In the work the authors rely on the typology developed by the International Academy
of Lie Research, which introduced 8 psychological types: hyperthymic, epileptoid,
schizoid, hysteroid, paranoid, emotive, depressive and sad, anxious and suspicious. A
type of nervous system, basic emotions, basic behavior, intelligence structure, specific
features of facial expressions, gestures, an accent, tone, tempo, volume, peculiar features
of communication: position and distance, posture, emotions are analyzed in order to determine
the psychological type.
The research objective is to reveal the psychological type of an individual who
commits a theft. As a result, it’s concluded that 78 % of people, who commit thefts, have
an epileptoid psychological type.
