CONCEPT FIELD MODELING OF “JOURNEY”: STRUCTURE AND VERBALIZATION (BASED ON THE NOVEL “AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS” BY JULES VERNE)

Abstract

This article focuses on the linguoconceptual modeling of the structure of the nominative field of the concept “Journey” in Jules Verne's novel “Around the World in 80 Days”. The study aims to model this field and to identify the specific characteristics of the concept within the French linguistic worldview of the 19th century. The methodology employs corpus analysis using the Voyant Tools platform for frequency and statistical analysis, conceptual
analysis, and field modeling based on the approach by E.A. Ognеva. The resulting model of the concept field comprises
the core (voyage, tour) and the near-core zone, which is organized into the sub-concepts of “Transport” (with the slots
“Water Transport” and “Land Transport”) and “Time” (with the slots “Fact of Time” and “Dates / Schedules”). The frequency analysis revealed the dominance of lexemes associated with technological means of transport and temporal regulation. The semantics of these lexical units verbalizes key conceptual features (“technological advancement”, “systematicity”, “punctuality”, “calculability”), which reflects the novel's central idea of humanity's triumph over space and time through technological progress and personal discipline. The study results contribute to the methods of linguistic text analysis and to scholarly research on Jules Verne‟s works.
