Abstract

The focus of contemporary scientific inquiry concentrates on the characteristics of linguistic communication in the global Internet, specifically the domain of Internet discourse. Mediatization permeats all spheres of human life, with its influence being particularly noticeable in social network communication. By commenting on news press releases, social media users demonstrate the modern tendency to transcend conventional linguistic and stylistic boundaries. The aim of our study is to identify the main verbal communication tactics used by social media users in their comments on news press releases. To address this question, we used a qualitative methodological approach to data collection and analysis. Data collection involved a purposeful sample of 350 user comments from the social news website 74.ru, all published within the past year. The sampled texts, each typically 2 or 3 sentences in length, were addressed to diverse groups of people, regardless of their age and professional orientation. This study demonstrates that the use of different speech patterns in online discourse can cause conflict, often motivated by a desire for self-assertion and dominance. The results obtained contribute to the expansion of empirical knowledge on a given topic and can be ap plied in the field of translation studies and psycholinguistics.
