MEANS OF NEGATIVE POLITENESS REALIZATION IN ENGLISH AND CHUVASH LINGUOCULTURES

Abstract

Modern linguistic research, particularly comparative analysis of different languages, contributes to iden tifying the specific linguistic means of realizing negative politeness and to determining the reasons for existing similari ties and differences between English and Chuvash linguocultures. Translation is a means of interlingual communica tion, the purpose of which is to render words of one language into semantically equivalent words in another language. The data of comparative research, undoubtedly, facilitate the transfer of information from one language to another de spite the emerging minor differences in the form of presentation or in the content, associated primarily with the national specificity of each nation and its language. The purpose of this study is to identify the general and specific lexico grammatical means of negative politeness in the process of translating from English into Chuvash. The factual material of this study consists of the original works of fiction by the English author O. Wilde, “Fairytales”, and their translation into the Chuvash language by B. Chindikov “Tĕlĕlĕntermĕsh yumakhsem”. The obtained results can be applied in linguoculturology, anthropological linguistics, ethnopsycholinguistics, ethnosociology, intercultural pragmatics, cogni tive science, theory and practice of intercultural communication. The revealed differences in the tactics of negative po liteness can be incorporated into practical courses on English and Chuvash conversation, as well as into teaching ma nuals, translation practice, and training. As a result of the comparative analysis, linguistic means of negative politeness have been revealed and the dominant features of negative politeness have been determined.
