ANALYSIS OF RUSSIAN COLLEGE STUDENTS AS BILINGUALS: FEATURES AND PROSPECTS

Abstract

The article investigates the bilingualism of Russian-speaking students at the Cherepovets Lesomekhanicheskii Technical School. The aim is to provide a comprehensive characterization of their bilingualism. The results are intended to analyze interference phenomena in the students’ speech. The study involved 136 students from different years of study. The methodology encompasses both quantitative and qualitative data analysis. The relevance of this study is in the necessity to enhance intercultural communication. The practical significance is rooted in understanding the characteristics of bilingualism for the study of language interference. During the research we interpreted the data and described in detail the students’ bilingualism according to 11 criteria. The results indicate an unbalanced bilingualism, primarily formed in childhood, with a predominance of receptive and subordinate types. The topic is of significant importance for enhancing students’ understanding of bilingualism.
