LINGUISTIC REPRESENTATIONOF THE CONCEPT «PATRIOTISM» IN THE RUSSIAN AND ENGLISH LANGUAGES

The article deals with linguistic representation of the concept «patriotism». The analysis
is based on definitions given in glossaries, etymological dictionaries and thesauruses.
The essence of the concept finds its verbal representation in specific words of the language.
The analysis of the definitions shows that patriotism can be seen as political and moral
principles, social feeling of love for the country, pride in the achievements of the people,
devotion to the motherland, willingness to sacrifice for the country, desire to defend it. Patriotism
as a complex phenomenon of social consciousness associated with love for the
country, its people, national pride, is manifested in the form of social feelings, moral and
political principles. Considering the concept «patriotism» the common feature in Russian
and English is love for the country, desire to protect it, willingness to sacrifice for it.
