Abstract

The socially significant features of self-identity for the Russian society of the 21st century have not been studied much. The actuality of the paper lies in the contradiction between human needs for self-realization and social constraints in human relationships both with each other and with the environment. The study is aimed to identify socially significant aspects of self-identity that characterizes all aspects of people’s life. The literature on the subject of self-identity was analyzed. The synthesis of the specifics of self-identity and its socially significant aspects was made. The socially significant aspects of self-identity were defined. They are: professional and civic self-identity, self-identity based on the goals of self-realization in the professional, social and family aspects. Self-determination of the individual is represented as a dynamic multifaceted phenomenon that reflects the typical aspects of human life in relationship both with oneself and with the environment. Author's understanding of self-identity can serve as a basis for educators to set the goals of educational process, to its further design and implementation.
